In May 2007, Fenfire invited the legendary Canadian
object manipulator and stage performer
Ryan Mellors to Vienna.
Ryan Mellors is a self-proclaimed "ex-juggler", who specialises in the
dynamic manipulation of objects in unique and beautiful ways. Combining styles of urban dance such as body popping and locking, with highly controlled movement of various different objects, Ryan creates a stunning form of ilusionary performance. Part juggling, part dance, part magic.
After viewing the promotional video of Fenfire's UV show,
LUMOTEK UV-3000, Ryan took time out of his busy schedule to visit Vienna and bring his knowledge and experience to the show. Ryan spent two days working and training wih Fenfire on the LUMOTEK UV-3000 show, examining the show from new perspective and exploring different ways of presenting the show's concept.
On his third day in Vienna, Ryan led a workshop, organised by Fenfire, on object manipulation and illusion techniques. Through a series of games and exercises Ryan explained the principles behind his performance illusions, and methods for training and developing these skills.
These three days with Ryan Mellors were invaluable to Fenfire, and much was gained in this short time. In particular the work on
LUMOTEK UV-3000 took the development of the show in new and unexpected directions, and intensively focused the team's creative energy on the project. More broadly, spending this time with such a talented and experienced performer was greatly inspiring for the whole team, and each team member came away from the experience with new ideas and skills.
